More about this Workshop/Service and the Provider
The cathedral is focused upon enquiry led learning, where every young person participates in a journey as they explore one or more topics (The Anglo Saxons; Faith & Philosophy; the Environment). Each topic is participatory, authentic, and memorable – with multiple applications across the National Curriculum.
Visits are enhanced through access to extensive classroom resources which extend and enrich the National Curriculum.
School visits, activities and teacher resources
Winchester Cathedral run activities for groups at all stages of the curriculum.
School visits to the Cathedral
We welcome children and students of all ages and levels to explore themes that link to the Cathedral's history and spaces.
We offer a sensory Cathedral tour and art workshops for pre-school and early years and interactive tours and workshops for secondary, university students, uniformed organisations and those educated at home.
Making a Booking
It is important that all visits are booked in advance even if you don’t want us to organise tours or activities. There are times when the Cathedral is closed or when access is restricted and we want your groups to gain as much as possible from their visit to the Winchester Cathedral.
There is a charge per pupil but accompanying adults are given free admission (based on the recommended number of adults to children).
Please email our Director of Learning, using the contact form below to discuss what you would like from your visit and to plan your day.
Testimonials
“The students spent their visit taking part in three different sessions. The first session was a guided tour of the Cathedral, learning about its importance in history and in Christianity, including links to the dissolution of the monasteries and Henry VIII, as well as going into the crypt to see the artwork given to the Cathedral by Antony Gormley.”
Crookhorn College
“I just wanted to say an enormous thank you, to you, the guides and Aisha for the wonderful welcome to Winchester Cathedral and the really interesting and engaging tours that the students received from their very knowledgeable guides. The feedback from the students has been overwhelmingly positive, with even those who have no faith saying that they found the visit thought provoking and the Cathedral building awe-inspiring. Thank you so much, I hope that we will be able to make this an annual visit as the students got so much out of it.”
Bishop Wand School
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped with our school trip to the cathedral today. The children absolutely loved it and I was so impressed with how much thought had been put into the day, both in terms of the selection of the tasks and the general organisation. It is, without doubt, the best school trip I have ever been on. Please pass our thanks on to everyone because you were all amazing.”
