At a Tickled Skink session, children interact with the world and the world responds to them. Their impact is the visual reward for their actions. Instead of studying the world from the distance of books and pictures, here they are fully immersed: Preyed on by mantids and bats, creating the rain, feeding the black swallower, rescuing the butterflies, swimming in the ocean and so much more.
With environmental issues threatening the future of our planet, what the world needs today is people who understand and love the natural world; who feel, reflect and act upon it.
Tickled Skink aims to open eyes, hearts and minds to the world; to leave the holistic impression of having experienced, first-hand, something rather remarkable: our natural world and its incredible diversity, and to have helped in some way to enable it to thrive.
There is no better time to foster appreciation of living organisms, habitats and eco-systems in the children that will, one day, make the difference for our planet.
Vanessa established Tickled Skink in 2008 and regularly visits primary schools, nurseries, museums, children’s birthday parties and special events throughout the midlands. She is a professional Actress, Educator and Musician who also holds a Masters degree in Museum Studies with the University of Leicester.
She has three grown up children of her own. Together they have practised journeys of the imagination, the memories of which will last a life time. It is thanks to them that the inspiration for Tickled Skink was born. It is in hopes for a better future for their generation that Tickled Skink continues.

The Workshop
An hour of animal handling and the chance to get up-close and personal with a host of exotic animals, including reptiles, mammal and invertebrates. Focusing on the National Curriculum Science agenda, students will have the opportunity to investigate different species first hand and to learn about them in depth.
