More about this Workshop/Service and the Provider

Schools workshops led by West End actors in Literacy, Character Education and Drama.

ACTivate is a small team, passionate about equipping students with the core skills they need to pursue their goals, take risks and express themselves with credibility, confidence and conviction. Founders Alex and Phoebe are professional actors with over ten years of experience, working with renowned organisations such as the RSC, National Theatre and Shakespeare’s Globe and appearing in hit West End shows such as Matilda, Motown and Pretty Woman. With a background as drama facilitators for young people, Alex and Phoebe established ACTivate Workshops in early 2019 and use the skills they have honed as actors to enrich learning, harness imagination and unlock creative potential.

Character Education workshops include Finding Your Voice: Public Speaking & Presentation, Interview Skills and Creative Leadership. These are built around the core elements of effective communication: Breath, Body, Voice and Language. Sessions focus on cultivating confidence, initiative and resilience whilst developing lifelong skills of leadership and collaboration. Literacy workshops are action-packed, energetic and fully immerse students in the world of a specific text or author. Expert facilitators lead students through an imaginative exploration of the story and characters, giving participants a head-start in class and leaving them excited, engaged and ready to learn. These workshops explore set texts across each Key Stage level and include Roald Dahl, Macbeth, Hamlet and An Inspector Calls amongst many others. Broader Literacy workshops include Unlocking Shakespeare and Unlocking Poetry which provide a great introduction to these areas of the curriculum for KS3. Drama workshops include Play in a Day, Improvising & Devising and Exploring Character.

All workshops can be tailored to suit particular year groups and specific timetable requirements. ACTivate also offer their Finding Your Voice: Presentation & Public Speaking workshop for CPD and inset days.

Testimonials

“We enjoyed the Finding Your Voice workshop so much that we will certainly book more in the future! It was very helpful to have a pre-course questionnaire to identify exactly what the objectives of the day were. The workshop was tailored to the size of our groups and to what we were looking to get out of the day. The objective of all activities was explained to the students to keep them focused and the activities were fun, age-appropriate and helped to demonstrate techniques. The students very much enjoyed the workshop and were able to put their newly learnt skills to practice at our Open Day recently.”
Emma Hutchings, MPW College, London

“Observing the day, I was impressed at how the facilitators encouraged the children by challenging their views, pushing them outside their comfort zones and inviting them to explore and feed back on their own performances and those of their peers. All the children enjoyed the workshop, learning new skills and leaving with greater confidence. A huge thank you to Alex and Phoebe for their energy and enthusiasm which rubbed off on the children. A brilliant day had by all - definitely recommended.”
Melanie O’Donnell, SOSage Youth Theatre, Solihull
